On your device: Study sets, flashcard decks, study plans, chat sessions (unless incognito), notification settings, tutorial progress, and imported file copies may be stored locally so the App works offline and loads quickly.
In the cloud: When you use AI features, sign in, subscribe, or sync usage, data is sent to our Supabase backend and AI providers as described below. Account, usage quotas, subscription status, and support-related records may be stored in the cloud. Uninstalling the App removes local data; cloud data remains until you delete your account or request deletion.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

What data we send: When you use the scanner, AI chat, calculator, Quiz Generator, Flashcard Generator, Import and Summarize, Study Plan, Style & Tone Refiner, AI Detector, AI Image Generator, Transcribe Notes, Learning Hub Study Sets (including AI tutor on your material and podcast script generation), or other AI features, we send the following to our AI service providers: photos you upload, questions or text you submit, content you add from links or files, pasted content, image prompts, audio or video for transcription, and study-set material used to generate summaries, tutor replies, and podcast dialogue. When you play a Study Set podcast, individual script lines may be sent to OpenAI for neural text-to-speech so Simon and Maria can speak in natural voices.
Who receives it: This data is sent to our AI routing/provider stack (OpenRouter and model partners such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, and DeepSeek as available) to process requests and return AI-generated responses. We do not sell your data to anyone.
How we collect it: Data is collected when you scan, send a chat message, use the calculator, add content (paste, file, photo, camera, or link) for the Quiz Generator, Flashcard Generator, Import and Summarize, Study Plan, Style & Tone Refiner, or AI Detector, submit an image prompt, or upload audio or video for Transcribe Notes. We obtain your permission in the app before sending any such data to our AI provider (you will see a one-time consent screen the first time you use the app).
Uses of this data: The data is used solely to (1) generate answers, solutions, and study content for you, (2) improve the quality and safety of our AI systems, and (3) comply with applicable law. Our AI providers are contractually required to use your data only to deliver and improve the service and to provide the same or equal protection for your data as described in this Privacy Policy. Withdrawing AI consent: You may stop using AI features, uninstall the App, delete your account (Profile → Account → Delete Account), or email thebrainboost2025@gmail.com to request deletion of cloud data. Local consent flags are cleared when you delete the App or reset app data.
AI outputs (solutions, summaries, detector scores, refined text) are generated automatically and are for educational assistance only. They are not legal, medical, financial, or professional advice, and are not used to make legally binding decisions about you.

The free tier is ad-supported so we can keep BrainBoost sustainable and profitable. Free users get 20 flexible uses per day (scan, chat, calculator, tutor, hub tools, and more) and may see rewarded video ads (watch an ad to earn +2 extra uses; subject to ad availability) and occasional interstitial ads. Ads are provided by Google AdMob. On iOS, we may ask for App Tracking Transparency permission so AdMob can measure ads; you can decline and still use the app. Ad revenue helps cover AI costs (OpenRouter/model providers) and allows us to offer a generous free tier. AdMob may collect device identifiers and use data for ad delivery, measurement, and personalization. You can control ad personalization in your device settings or Google account. We do not sell your personal information to advertisers. Premium subscribers do not see ads.
To prevent abuse and keep AI costs sustainable, we track feature usage (e.g. flexible daily uses, study-set summaries, podcast voice lines, and Premium-only quotas) using your device identifier and, when signed in, your account. This usage data is used to enforce the limits described in our Terms of Service and is not sold to third parties.
We never sell your personal information. We only share data in these limited circumstances:

Age 13+ requirement: The App is NOT intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If we discover a user is under 13, we will terminate access and delete their data as required by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and federal law.

You can watch rewarded ads to earn +2 uses per completed video (subject to ad availability), or share the app (up to 5 times per day, +3 flexible uses per successful share). No email or password is required for device-based use.
Optional Account: If you choose to create an account, you agree to: Provide accurate, current, and complete information; Maintain and update your information to keep it accurate; Keep your account credentials secure and confidential; Notify us immediately of any unauthorized account access.
You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account.

Usage Limits & Daily Quotas Comprehensive Details: BrainBoost enforces fair daily limits so the service stays fast, sustainable, and fairly priced. Limits are tracked by device and, when you sign in, by account.
Payment Processing: Payments are processed through Apple App Store (iOS devices), Google Play Store (Android devices), or Stripe (web platform).
Auto-Renewal: Weekly, monthly, and yearly subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. By subscribing, you agree to automatic renewal and authorize us to charge your payment method each billing cycle until you cancel. You can cancel anytime through your App Store/Play Store subscription settings to avoid future charges.
Restore Purchases: If you reinstall the App or switch devices, use Restore Purchases on the paywall or Profile to restore an active Premium subscription tied to your Apple ID or Google account.
Free Tier (Ad-Supported): Free users receive 20 flexible uses per day (scan, chat, calculator, tutor, hub tools, and more). Daily limits do not reset until the next calendar day. You can earn more uses by watching rewarded ads (+2 per completed video, subject to ad availability) or sharing the app (+3 per share, up to 5 shares per day). The free tier is supported by advertising so we can keep the service sustainable and profitable; Premium subscribers get an ad-free experience.
Price and Limit Changes: We may change subscription prices or free-tier limits with reasonable notice (e.g. 30 days for price changes) to keep the service sustainable. Existing subscribers will be notified via email and in-app notification where required. Price changes apply to renewals after the notice period. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

BrainBoost is built for genuine students seeking learning assistance. To maintain service quality and prevent abuse, we enforce the following fair usage policies:
Automated Use Detection & Prevention: We actively monitor for bot-like behavior and automated abuse. Prohibited actions include: Automated Requests (Using scripts, bots, or software to automatically submit questions or drain daily limits); Rapid-Fire Abuse (Submitting 100 requests in rapid succession without normal reading/interaction time); Pattern Abuse (Repeating identical or near-identical requests continuously); API Scraping (Attempting to reverse-engineer or directly access our AI APIs); Multi-Device Abuse (Creating multiple accounts across devices to circumvent daily limits).
Abuse Detection Systems: We employ multiple layers of protection to detect abuse:
1. Rate Limiting: Requests are limited to a maximum of 1 per second. Exceeding this triggers automatic throttling.
2. Usage Pattern Analysis: Our systems detect unnatural usage patterns (e.g., 100 requests in 2 minutes without breaks).
3. IP Monitoring: Multiple accounts from the same IP address submitting identical content are flagged.
4. Device Fingerprinting: Attempts to bypass device-based trial limits are automatically detected.
5. Machine Learning Detection: AI-powered anomaly detection identifies bot-like behavior patterns.
Enforcement & Penalties: Violations of our fair usage policy result in immediate action:
What Counts as "Normal Use": To help you stay within fair usage, here's what we consider normal student behavior: Submitting 10-50 questions per day with time to read and understand each answer; Using the service during homework time (evenings, weekends); Waiting 5-10 seconds between requests to review previous responses; Scanning different homework problems with varied content; Using the chat for follow-up questions and clarifications.
Examples of Abuse: The following behaviors will result in immediate suspension: Submitting all 100 daily flexible uses within 5 minutes; Running a script to automatically submit questions every second; Creating 10 accounts to get 1,000 free trial uses; Sharing your Premium account with 20 classmates; Selling access to BrainBoost or reselling AI-generated answers.
Our Content: BrainBoost and all related content, features, functionality, AI models, designs, logos, and trademarks are owned by BrainBoost and are protected by copyright, trademark, patent, and other intellectual property laws.
Your Content: When you upload homework images or submit questions, you retain ownership of your content. By using the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive license to use, process, and store your content solely to provide and improve the Service.
AI-Generated Content: Solutions and explanations generated by our AI belong to BrainBoost. You may use them for personal, educational purposes but may not redistribute or commercialize them.
AI accuracy disclaimer: BrainBoost uses advanced artificial intelligence to provide solutions and assistance. AI-generated content, including math solutions, factual summaries, and all other output, may be inaccurate, incomplete, or "hallucinated" (confidently wrong). Output should be used as a reference only and must be verified against official textbooks, verified sources, or expert guidance. We disclaim all liability for errors in AI-generated output, including but not limited to failed exams, incorrect homework, or flawed calculations.
While we strive for accuracy, you acknowledge and agree that:

• Our Right to Terminate: We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account immediately, without notice, for: Violation of these Terms or Acceptable Use Policy; Fraudulent activity or payment disputes; Abusive behavior toward other users or support staff; Legal or regulatory requirements; Prolonged inactivity or non-payment. Upon termination, you lose access to the Service and any saved content. No refunds are provided for terminations due to Terms violations.
